Larry and I both were raised in the area and attended school at Olathe. Our home ranch is located southwest of Delta in an agriculture community know as Pea Green (the first school house was painted a pea green color). We have spent our lives riding in the mountains, helping my family with their cattle. My brother has the original cow camp and permit that my grandfather and great uncle had, which is adjacent to our permit on the Uncompahgre Plateau.
Our cow camp is located on 7N mesa. Around 1900, the 7N brand was used in our area and we are not sure if it was the 7N or Bar N, but this Bar N has been used in our area since the 1920s. Our cow camp has been a camp site since the late 1800s. Larry and I have been grazing cattle on our Forest Service and BLM permit for 20 years. My family has been grazing cattle on the Uncompahgre Plateau since the late 1800s in the area where we are ranching, before there were fences.
